Nearly all of Pompano Beach is on sewer. The city collects wastewater through gravity lines and 81 city-owned lift stations. It all flows to the Broward County North Regional plant on Copans Road. Cresthaven joined the city in 2000, and Leisureville, Loch Lomond, Kendall Green and Pompano Beach Highlands followed in 2004. Broward County still supplies water in those annexed areas, so your bill may come from the county. Either way the test is the same: no sewer charge on the bill means the house is on a tank. In Collier City, Cresthaven or Palm Aire, if the house is on a tank, we pump it.
City policy says homes on septic tanks and private wells must hook up once sewer and water reach them. Lines near canals and other surface water get priority. Until a main reaches your street, pump the tank ahead of the wet season. The water table rises from May through October. The drain field has less dry soil, and a full tank backs up faster. We pump the tank to the floor, wash it down, and report on lid, baffles and liquid level. A buried lid gets a septic riser lid, so the next pump-out starts at ground level. A home sale gets a septic inspection with a written report.
